the kart

the name

I figured that the Gixxerkart was named after the slang term for Suzuki's GSX-R bikes and so the name "Fizzerkart" was chosen when I found out what Yamaha nerds referred to the FZR series as.

The kart is being disassembled so that we can thoroughly clean the chassis and start to make length adjustments. I have found out that the chassis is made of 32mm chromium-molybdenum steel, so that's basically what I need to acquire.

Also the axle area is being taken apart so that I can get some ideas about a custom sprocket axle hub if the original cannot be used. Also being removed are the fairings and the braking system.

All the yamaha stuff needed for the kart has been collected so the next step is to perform the extension of the chassis. I need to find an experienced person to do the structural adjustments.

We've had a new idea about the mounting of the engine. We are thinking of cutting the motor mounts out of the frame and then, if possible, welding those mounts onto the chassis of the kart so the engine sort of... mounts straight on. This will eliminate the need for fabricating motor mounts and such. It will probably look a bit more sensible as well.

Kart has gone temporarily into the basement for storage. It'll be a little while before we can start cutting it up to extend the frame. Measurements need to be taken and such. The kart still has no certain method of propulsion since the bike is still dead.

Yep the Go-kart has finally been purchased. Let me tell you... it is way way way beefier than I was planning on. The kart has a Haase Racing (european) chassis. 40mm steel axle, disc brakes... really good components all around. To be utterly frank it is better than perfect for the project. It is ridiculously low. I swear my butt is less than an inch from the ground.

The guy we bought it from says it will be super solid well over 100mph. I have been drooling over its sinew for a while. Just looking at it makes me happy.

Seriously after seeing how beefcake this thing is I feel like it should have at least a 1000cc motor. >:-)

Just kidding, I'm all out of 'budget' at the moment.
